Just to help get you through month 341 on lockdown with no real life dancing, we bring you a truly amazing lineup of the best talent from around the world. Alongside resident SH13, we’re delighted to welcome Miss VK from Bristol, Alec Tronik from Liverpool, and BEARCAT, all the way from Philadelphia.
The show went out LIVE on techno.fm on Fri 14th August 2020
[ Nexus / wAliens / FNOOB ]
The dark techno / industrial pseudonym of Sted Hellvis (dirty warehouse / squat techno); equally tough in outlook and attitude, SH13 is the outlet for the mayhem pitching in around 135-140bpm.
SH13’s sets focus on an industrial edge, with monstrous kick drums, twisted distortion and dirty sonics. Sometimes described as brutal, it’s hard edged without a doubt but doesn’t lose the focus of the dancefloor.
[ Discwoman / Seltzer ]
BEARCAT is a London-born, Philadelphia-based artist. She has worked as a DJ/Producer, audio engineer and professional makeup artist since 2005. Her sets can only be described as dance floor therapy healing others through sultry sounds of pulsing beats as she heals herself creating a tranquil yet chaotic symbiotic relationship with her audience, a mystical being behind the decks lures you into her world a succubus of techno it's a dark hypnotic sensation that leaves you craving for more, bass heavy uncompromised mixes possess your body and leaves you in a transfixed state as you dance and become feral that is BEARCATS absolute power. Her immense talents has taken her to perform around the world including Egypt, Paris, Lyon, Berlin, Leipzig, Barcelona, Mexico City, Oakland and Chicago. BEARCAT has DJ’d and talked at universities such as Cornell, Wesleyan, Oberlin and Bard and provided creative direction for festivals and live events such as AFROPUNK, Glastonbury, Reading, Lovebox amongst others. Her performance highlights include playing at the MoMA, the Brooklyn Museum, the Guggenheim, MoMA ps1 countless times, the Whitney, Performa17, and the Norton Museum of Art. She has also landed a Vogue feature for composing a score for a fashion show. Her work as a DJ has lead her to create Seltzer nightlife exclusively centering around black and brown queer/trans talent [which is important as others in the music scene especially black artists do not get enough proper exposure as they deserve]. BEARCAT is currently working on a visual EP and aspires to score a horror movie.
[ Mxsticate / Melodic Distraction ]
Alec Tronik Host , curator and creator of MXSTICATE - a concept shedding light on authentic queerness around the globe, giving a platform to music and artists that often get overshadowed in favour of heteronormative narratives .
This authenticity is embodied in every aspect of Tronik’s life whether Djing in New York or playing alongside SOPHIE, Princess Nokia and Yves Tumour; Tronik is naturally ahead of the curve. Their sets are a frenetic blend which creates their own genre, mesmerically weaving a journey of dance floor possession
If you're gonna vogue on their dance floor, you better your knees dirty!
[ Coreligula / Tekno Value ]
VK is a resident at Bristol's Tekno Value nights playing acidcore and tek and bouncing people off walls. Recently she joined the Coreligula label and played at the Red Lion Bristol just before lockdown. Last year she played for the Bubblejam Mad Hatters and Lunartek in London as well as representing residencies. During the lockdown she has she performed live for Clownfest, Monster Vision and Collide events and has been enjoying slower paced but no less full on techno as is being brewed up for the Nexus radio show
